On July 19, Truliant Federal Credit Union presented a check in the amount of $1000 to the Board of Directors of Triad Dream Center from a grant awarded to Outreach Alliance for Babies. This grant was awarded to the Alliance in support of our Safe Sleep kits.
Outreach Alliance for Babies supports the community’s commitment to decrease infant mortality and promote child development and safety. We provide clothing, a Safe Sleep Kit, and other necessities to families facing economic challenges by partnering with other local agencies. Since 2005, the Alliance has provided 30 layette bags or more each month to families in the local area.
There are approximately 2,500 infants who die of SIDS each year in the US. The American SIDS Institute recommends several things to reduce the risk of SIDS. Included in the list is offering an infant a pacifier and not allowing bed sharing with other siblings or the parents. One piece pacifiers are safer for infants than others which can come apart and cause a choking hazard. There are many infants that do not have a dedicated place to sleep when they come home from the hospital. Pack and Plays will allow for this separate space for the infant.
A group from BB&T assisted the program by purchasing items and preparing layette bags. Individuals have donated baby wash and lotions and pacifiers. A movie theater premiering “Bridget Jones’s Baby” hosted a baby shower. The ACEY group at Winston-Salem Foundation hosted a baby shower. A hospital has donated baby items. All of this helps, but there is more need than we can fill.
If you are interested in hosting a baby shower or conducting a donation drive, please contact our office at (336) 744-3632. Monetary donations are gladly accepted through our website under the “donate” tab or they can be mailed to our street address: 3650-J Patterson Ave, Winston-Salem, NC 27105. Thank you for considering to be a partner with Triad Dream Center.
